Hacianda La Alegria, Aloag
Small, family-run organic farm situated in the heart of Ecuador's panoramic "Avenue of the Volcanoes", a spectacular valley dividing the eastern and western ranges of the Andes. It offers traditional hospitality with a touch of luxury in a beautiful setting. La Alegria specialises in horseback vacations amid the majesty of the high Andes of the Equator.
They offer day rides for those new to riding, travellers with limited time, or a programme of more adventurous multi-day trips travelling on horseback through the mountains, forests and paramo (high grasslands) of the Andes. For groups of two or more they are also happy to organise itineraries customised to your requirements.
Horses and tack : Most have been bred on the farm from mixed Criollo (native South American), English Thoroughbred and Arabian stock, resulting in a near perfect combination of toughness, agility, calm temperament and "mountain sense". Beginners and experienced riders alike have found them easy to ride, willing and good mannered. If you have previous riding experience you will be given plenty of opportunity to canter.
A range of tack is available: including North American style, English style, Mclellan calvary, Chillean and traditional Ecuadorian "Chagra" style with its intricate leather-work and saddle horn.
Guests at La Alegria can visit Cotopaxi Volcano, 1-hour drive from the hotel. Location: 11 km from Mariscal Sucre Airport, and a one hour drive south of the capital Quito.
