Ireland's grandest castle hotel, with a history going back to the early 13th century, Ashford Castle is set in 350 acres of beautiful parkland.
Grandeur, formality and tranquillity are the essential characteristics, first seen in immaculately maintained grounds and, once inside, in a succession of impressive public rooms that illustrate a long and proud history - panelled walls, oil paintings, suits of armour and magnificent fireplaces.
The best guest rooms, and the luxurious suites at the top of the castle - many with magnificent views of Lough Corrib, the River Cong and wooded parkland - are elegantly furnished with period furniture, some with enormous and beautifully appointed bathrooms; others have remarkable architectural features, such as a panelled wooden ceilings.
The hotel's exceptional amenities include a neo-classical fitness centre, and the extensive activities outdoor pursuits available on the estate.
The Ashford Equestrian Centre offers superb trail riding, hacks and lessons for all ages and abilities. For families who wish to go on a trail ride with younger children they can be guided on foot, leading the childrens ponies. Hard hats and jodhpur boots are supplied. Each rider is first introduced to their horse, given a little tuition and after doing some familiarising circuits of the arena sets out on the trail. If parties of friends or families are mixed ability the type of ride will be to the standard of the least experienced rider.
A two hour ride allows you to get a bit further off the beaten track and there is the possibility of exploring a ruined Castle. For more experienced riders, half and full day trail rides are offered. A pub lunch can be organised as part of this package
